AI development is dependent on access to big data, but that brings challenges. The use of smart data generated or “streamed” by “smart devices” brings potential for misuse. Predictive analytics are also creating challenges – transforming the way the insurance industry models risks and prices premiums. Regulators are paying attention to the potential ethical and legal ramifications of the big data that is fuelling AI. The EU Commission has already identified smart data as personal data therefore falling under the requirements of the GDPR.
