The open source movement has had profound impacts on society and the open data movement is gaining significant momentum due to the internet and open-data government initiatives. Open data presents many challenges for large corporates that have established systems and are more restricted in their approach, which gives the smaller and more agile players an advantage. On the other hand, large corporates have more internal data providing them with a competitive data advantage. This talk looks to explore data as an asset, the relative advantages of open and internal data from a predictive analytics perspective and the effect open-data will have on corporations.
